Sambhar Lake

Sambhar Lake Camping Trip

Posted By : Diksha Kumar/ 278 0

Sambhar Lake, situated in the Indian state of Rajasthan, is a place where horizons stretch to infinity, where water and sky merge in a shimmer of gauzy blue. Its civilization is centuries old.

Sambhar is India’s largest saline lake, 190 sq km in extent at full capacity, and lays some 60 km west of Jaipur. Several seasonal freshwater streams, two of the major ones being the rivers Mendha and Rupangarh, feed it.

Sambhar Lake

There are a good number of mountains around the lake where you can do a little bit of trekking too. There are a couple of state highways surrounded by the lake. So, it is easy to find a camping site. Just look for hard ground, instead of wet one, and you’re good to camp. Before you set up the camp and the campfire, make sure the distance is, at least, 4-5KMs away from the road.

Sambhar Lake is an offbeat photography place in Rajasthan and it is definitely an ace one. You cannot see anything other than the lake and its emptiness. It is a perfect place to do wedding shoot or sunrise-sunset shoots, and you can even capture the milky way in the night. Yes, the sky is that clear as there is hardly any pollution here. Enjoy the calm and serene views of this stunning lake.

What really draws one to Sambhar is the lure of flamingos. After the Rann of Kutch, where they breed, Sambhar is said to be the most important habitat for flamingos in the country. Pelicans too, apparently love the lake and flock here in large battalions. There are many other species to be appreciated too. Storks, sandpipers, redshanks, black-winged stilts, coots, and shovelers float peacefully in the water.

Sambhar Lake

From here resume your journey and make your way to the gorgeous town of Sawarda which boasts a very beautiful and unique Gurudwara. Experience the best of Rajasthan culture, witness colorful streets and interact with humble locals. Enjoy a smooth ride and experience Rajasthan like never before by embarking on this exciting trip to Sambhar Lake.
