Ladakh Tour Map and Details on the Route
In order to reach Leh, you can take one of the two popular routes. You can either take the Manali – Leh highway, which requires you to embark on a 473 km long journey, or take the Srinagar – Leh highway, which is about 420 km long. With a Leh tour package, you can even take a flight to Leh, which is connected with major cities, such as Delhi, Chandigarh and Srinagar.
However, if you’re looking to pass through scenic landscapes, barren land, raw nature and snow-capped mountains, it’s better to plan a road trip via one of the above mentioned routes. In order to reach Manali, you can either take a flight to Bhuntar Airport, or catch a bus or private taxi from Delhi or Chandigarh. Most people prefer to travel on the Manali – Leh highway, as it allows them to capture the stunning beauty of Himachal Pradesh.
All major cities are connected to Delhi and Chandigarh via flights. You can take a flight to one of these cities, and begin your road trip towards Manali around afternoon or evening. This makes sure you’re able to reach Manali early in the morning next day. Regular buses and taxis ply between Delhi, Chandigarh and Manali.
It’s better to reach Chandigarh or Delhi in the morning or afternoon. This allows you to start the journey for Manali by the evening, which helps you avoid wasting daytime in a bus or cab. Chandigarh is approximately 320 km from Manali. It takes about 9 hours to reach Manali via road. With a Ladakh tour map, you can plan the route in advance.
As mentioned earlier, some people even prefer to take a flight to Bhuntar Airport, which is the closest airport to Manali. However, flights departing for Bhuntar Airport are expensive and erratic. Thus, they’re often termed as the least preferred and an inconvenient way to travel to Manali. Though Bhuntar is only 50 km from Manali, the journey still takes an additional 2 hours.
After the overnight journey from Delhi or Chandigarh, you reach Manali early in the morning. You’ll need some time to soak in the breathtaking views. The snow-capped mountains, curvy mountain roads and simplistic lifestyle will leave you in awe, atleast for a while.
During peak season, you’ll also witness some of the most lush valleys you’ve ever seen. While booking a Leh tour package, many people prefer to stopover in Manali for a couple of days, exploring the stunning scenic beauty of Himachal.
Sarchu via Rohtang Pass
On reaching Rohtang Pass, your thermals will be put to good use. From here on, you’ll only be climbing higher altitudes. The temperatures will dip sharply, and you’ll have to keep yourself protected against chilly weather. Sarchu is a stopover destination between Manali and Leh. There’s a long distance you need to cover on the journey. The long stretches of icy boulders and snow-capped peaks look mesmerizing.
After a good stopover in Rohtang Pass, you need to get ready for the journey ahead. It’s better to reach Sarchu by night, which gives you time to adapt to changing conditions and relax for a while. On the way to Sarchu, you’ll also pass Keylong, where you can stop for lunch, before proceeding on the final leg of the journey.
In the mountains, you shouldn’t expect lavish choices for food. However, the local cuisine in Himachal Pradesh is delicious and refreshing. You’ll find a blend of Tibetan, Chinese, Korean and Indian cuisines.
On this journey, Baralacha Pass is another milestone that you’ll cross. It’s even a great photo opportunity for photography enthusiasts. At this point, you’ll start experiencing the wrath of freezing temperatures. They’ll be unforgivable if you’re not prepared, and may even take a toll on your health. On reaching Sarchu, try to keep yourself warm.
The remote village doesn’t have any concrete structure or mobile connectivity. It’s one of the last few settlements near Himachal Pradesh’s border. If you’ve booked a Ladakh tour package, proper arrangements will be made to keep everyone warm and healthy.
Reach Leh and Leave Yourself Awestruck
After a relaxing night, get ready for your journey within the state of Jammu & Kashmir. Proper rest ensures you’re fully rejuvenated, refreshed and energetic for the road. The total distance between Leh and Sarchu is 250 km, which takes about 5 hours to cover. On the journey, you’ll cross numerous rugged hills, scenic landscapes, rows of snow-capped mountains and everything else that’s magical about the region.
The raw nature will slowly unfold all around you, and take you on an expedition of exploration, inner peace and perspective changes. With a Ladakh tour map, all this just becomes easier and convenient.
