How to Reach Bhrigu Lake from Manali?


Most trekkers prefer to reach the Main Government Bus Stand in Manali around 9 AM. It’s better to start your journey early in the morning. At an altitude of 6,730 feet, Manali is one of the most popular hill stations in Himachal Pradesh. Also, Bhrigu Lake trekking is one of the most preferred activities in Manali. From the bus stand, you can take a bus or a taxi to Gulaba, the base camp of the trek. The journey takes about two hours.

The total distance between Manali and Gulaba is 22 km. On weekends, the route to Gulaba can be crowded, and you’ll come across hordes of tourists visiting Rohtang Pass. Once you’ve reached Gulaba, rest for the day, and plan the hike on the next morning.


With Solang Valley and Manali in the background, you walk through lush meadows and dense forest cover. You’ll be able to catch stunning views of some famous peaks, including Seven Sister peaks, Hanuman Tibba and more.


Throughout the trek, you should carry sufficient water. Depending on the season, there’s limited water source on the trek. After trekking for about 4 hours, you’ll reach Kolang Nallah. In most months, you’ll notice a makeshift wooden bridge, installed to help you cross the water body.


Once you’ve crossed the bridge, you need to hike for another 2 hours to reach Rola Kholi. It’s a beautiful campsite, where you can relax for the rest of the day. A water stream flows near the campsite, allowing you to use water for several purposes. At the campsite, you can rest for the remaining part of the day.


On the third day, you should start early in the morning. It’s a long and steep trail. While trekking to Bhrigu Lake, you’ll notice the trail changing colour from white to brown to green. This is even more clearly visible in winter season. Since the path has boulders, you should be extra cautious throughout the journey.

Once you reach the lake, soak in some breathtaking views of the partially frozen lake. In case you visit Bhrigu Lake during summer months, you’ll notice tiny alpine flowers and lush green grassland surrounding the lake. Spend some time at the lake, soak in the stunning views, and head back to the campsite in Rola Kholi.


On the last day of the journey, you leave for Gulaba, where your vehicles are parked to take you back to Manali. If you start early, you can reach Manali around 4 PM. Once again, you need to consider the high number of tourists visiting Rohtang Pass, which causes a lot of traffic.
