Kedarkantha is a majestic peak in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. It is a popular winter trekking destination and is open all year round. The peak stands at an altitude of 12,500 ft and can be accessed by going through Govind Wildlife Sanctuary. If you go on Kedarkantha trek, you will have to cover a distance of around 10 km to reach the summit. The trek begins from a small village Sankri which is located at an altitude of 6,500 ft, so in effect, you will be climbing 6,000 ft. uphill. Kedarkantha trek difficulty level is easy to moderate, with gradual ascends and descends. Only the uphill climb from Kedarkantha base camp can be a little strenuous. Kedarkantha is famous for being a winter trek. But, you have to keep in mind that winters can be harsh. You will require snow boots, very warm clothing, special jackets, walking stick, and trekking equipment, which you will also have to carry on your back. On the other hand, summer trekking would require fewer things. Do keep the above things in mind when planning Kedarkantha trek.

 

Reasonably Good Levels of Fitness is Required

 

Sankri is the last point where you can get any emergency assistance. Therefore, it is important that you are in good health when going on the Kedarkantha trek. As you climb uphill, oxygen levels will decrease. Therefore, you should have a good respiratory system and your lungs should be strong. Furthermore, all your vital parameters like blood pressure, pulse rate, and oxygen saturation levels should also be normal. 

 

Kedarkantha trek difficulty level varies with the weather. The gradual ascends and descends become a little difficult to maneuver during winter because of the snow.
