Manali to Chandratal Lake Road
A lot of visitors visit Chandratal Lake from Manali. Though the distance is approximately 140 km, it does not mean that the journey is easy or short. It can easily take about 7-8 hours from Manali to Chandratal Lake via Rohtang Pass and Batal. It’s better to depart early in the morning and make sure you reach Chandratal on time. The journey includes a very steep ascent to the famous Rohtang Pass.
On the way, you need to tackle heavy traffic going towards the top. This is followed by a grueling journey on the Gramphoo Batal Pass, and another section of Kutcha Road from Batal to Chandratal Lake which is a 14 Kms dirt road, which is barely enough for a car. Thus, it’s highly recommended to plan your trip under the guidance of experienced professionals.
When you start from Manali, you need to take the Leh highway, and move towards Rohtang Pass. Until you’re near Rohtang Pass, road conditions will seem good. After this, you will have to face some challenging roads until Gramphoo. Once you reach Gramphoo, there will be a dirt road on the right. You’ll also be able to see a sign welcoming your arrival to Spiti Valley. On this road, you need to continue till Batal. The road is full of dirt with many water crossings.
On reaching Batal, you need to continue towards the famous Kunzum Pass. Just before Kunzum Pass, there’s another dirt road on the left. You’ll see a road sign welcoming you on Chandratal Road. Take this road, and drive for another 14 km to reach Chandratal. If you’re looking to plan a trip from Manali to Chandratal, let our experts help you out. For more information, click here.
