During McLeodganj peak season, the region can be crowded, and it’s better to plan everything in advance.

Triund – McLeodganj Trek

Triund is located at a distance of just 9 km from the Main Square in McLeodganj. A trek to the top takes about 4 hours, and you can walk back the same day. However, most people prefer to stay at the top of the hill, and return next morning. A trek to Triund takes you through the rhododendron trees to catch mesmerizing views of Dhauladhar range.

Kareri Lake Trek

A quite long trek, this one is also difficult. It takes about 4 days to complete this trek, which takes you completely out of McLeodganj toward the mountains. While Triund is in the eastern side of McLeodganj, Kareri Lake trek is in the west. It’s highly recommended to plan this trek with a professional guide.

On the first day, you cross Kareri village and walk through local villages and pine forests. This part of the trek isn’t very steep. At the end of the village, you can set up camp to rest. On the second day, you can proceed on the journey to Kareri Lake. This stretch is challenging and tests your stamina. Once you reach the lake, all the effort proves to be worth it.

Bhagsunag Waterfall Trek

Although it could hardly be categorized as a trek, it deserves a place in every McLeodganj trek plan. Just 2.5 km from the Main Square, Bhagsunag is for everyone. Be it kids, families or couples, you’ll find people from different backgrounds and age groups having a good time. More adventurous people can walk up to Shiva Cafe to catch amazing views while enjoying a delicious meal.

What should you carry for McLeodganj trekking?

Posted By : Dinkar Kamat/ 953 0

Without a doubt, Triund is one of the most popular, scenic and less tiring trekking destinations in North India. Giving magnificent views of the Dhauladhar range, Triund is home to hundreds of trekkers every year during the peak season. When it comes to McLeodganj trekking destinations, Triund is the most preferred choice.

The scenic hill is located at only 9 km from the town of McLeodganj, which is also famous as Dalai Lama’s residence. The best time to visit Triund is between April to June and September to November. Due to heavy crowds during McLeodganj trekking season, it’s important to plan everything in advance. While planning your trek, it’s also important to consider some things that you should carry.

Triund – McLeodganj Trekking – Things to Carry

In order to plan a trek to Triund, you don’t have to carry any advance or heavy trekking gear. In fact, if you’re not planning to stay at the top overnight, you need to carry very few things. A windcheater, gloves and fleece jacket will keep you warm in case the weather changes unexpectedly.

For most treks, experienced professionals recommend wearing high ankle shoes. However, for this trek, your usual sports shoes with good grip will also be fine. A sun cap and sunscreen can protect you under the Sun.

It’s better to carry just one bottle of water, and get it refilled from the small tuck shops on your way. Carrying plastic bottles to the top is not recommended, and you should be responsible about protecting the environment while planning your trek.

The tuck shops on the trail, and at the top give snacks, lunch and dinner at nominal prices. However, don’t keep your expectations too high. The lunch and dinner are simplistic, and if you’re looking to have a good meal at night, it’s better to carry packed food.
