The monsoon hits northern India around July 1st week. The snow clad glaciers start melting, giving way to some awesome trekking plans. One of these is a trek to the Valley of Flowers in July. Before you plan the trip for July, you must know what’s in store for you on reaching the destination.

During the first week, it’s likely that the small currents around river Pushpawati are semi-frozen, making the trek a bit more challenging. However, this is the right time to catch a glimpse of some beautiful flora, such as Anemone Tetrasepala, Golden Lily, Geraniums and the much rare and beautiful Ladies Slipper Orchid.

 

The first half of July is the right time to not only be mesmerized by the beautiful flowers, but even the scenic glaciers. Also, the peak season for the famous Hemkund Sahib is over by 30th June, due to which, Ghangaria (the basecamp) is less crowded.

From the second half of July to the end of August, the Valley of Flowers is in full bloom. Till July end, it’s easy to see several species of flowers, and even a few glaciers. Since this is the time monsoon hits the north, you just need to be careful about road conditions.

Best Time to Visit the Valley of Flowers

Closed from October to May, flowers in the valley start blooming during the month of June. By this time, the snow starts melting, giving way to roads for better transportation. The temperature also starts improving. Quite important if you’re not a seasoned backpacker.

From mid-July to the end of August, the valley is in full bloom. As the rainy season arrives, acres of lush green landscape is occupied with hundreds of flowers in many different colours.

During the summer, and primarily the monsoon season, the valley witnesses hundreds of alpine flowers in full bloom. The pleasant Valley of Flowers weather during this period makes it the most preferred time to plan a trek.

 

From October to May, this popular trekking destination remains covered in a thick blanket of snow. Thus, mid-July to end of August is considered to be the peak season. During this period, not only the roads are accessible, but the pleasant weather ensures you’re able to witness the mesmerizing beauty of the valley in its true form.

The summer season is the perfect time to plan your trek. From July to August, you can view the valley’s panoramic beauty. During this period, the valley remains covered in a thick blanket of snow, making it difficult, and in fact almost impossible, to plan a trek. There’s a sharp drop in the temperature. While in the day temperature goes well below 7 degrees celsius, nights are freezing cold.
