Detailed Itinerary – Tarsar Marsar Lake Trek

Day 1: Srinagar to Aru Valley

Arrive early at the Srinagar station. We will use the vehicles to embark on the first part of our journey. We then begin our three – hour drive from Srinagar to Aru Valley. Aru Valley is the first camp in our trek. On reaching there, we will set camp for the night.

Day 2 : Aru Valley to Lidderwat

We will proceed from the Aru Valley on foot along a trail that follows alongside the River Lidder and opens into the lush green meadows of the Lidderwat Valley. It is an excellent campsite for overnight camping. Here we shall spend six to seven hours soaking in the greenery. Since we have so much time at our disposal, we can even set up a campfire in the later hours of the evening.

Day 3 : Lidderwat Valley to Seikiwais

Today’s climb is a steep one involving a lot of ascending. We first head to Hamwais, where we will cross the river. While crossing, we will battle another steep ascent to reach Seikiwais – a beautiful meadow base-camp. The track has numerous clear streams providing drinking water. The Seikiwais is one of the best campsites of the entire trek. Here we will have a relaxed night after the long, stressful climb.

Day 4 : Seikiwais to Tarsar Lake

Once again, we ascend to reach the Tarsar Lake. The view along the way is beautiful, full of numerous wild flowers. We will stop here for three to four hours to relax in the shade of the surrounding Alpine tress and breathe in some of those heady fragrances.

Day 5 : Tarsar Lake to Marsar Lake

A steep walk alongside the Tarsar Lake will lead you to the Marsar Lake. Here we will enjoy watching the nature and listening to the melodious chirping of birds. After taking a dip in the fresh water, we will head back to the Tarsar Campsite. Camping alongside this lake is a beautiful experience.

Day 6 :Tarsar Lake to Sonamous

Today we trek along a steep goat track to reach the Zazmarg Valley. This valley is surrounded by mountains and scenic beauty. On reaching the top of the Sonamous, you can feast your eyes on a breathtaking view. Then, a steep descent of about an hour will take you to the Sonamous Namdas village, which will be our last camp on Tarsar Marsar trek.

Day 7 : Sonamous to Sumbal Village

On our last day of the trip, we will head out from Sonamous and move toward Sumbal, where a steep six-hour descent will bring us into the midst of the mesmerizing Sumbal village. This is where Tasrsar Marsar trek ends and after spending a few hours here, we head back to Srinagar.
