Valley Of Flowers Trek – Renok Adventures

Posted By : adminwebnoo/ 446 72

The snow on the Himalayas adds majesty to the mountains and the innumerable flower patches of vivid colors add to its beauty. When the sun shines hot on this field, thousands of flowers bloom here. This valley was unknown till a British mountaineer Frank Smythe first discovered this place. In 1931,  Smythe wanted to scale a peak in Garhwal called Kamet. While returning after successfully completing his mission he took the western pass and lost his way and reached this valley after many difficulties. Thus, was born the Valley Of Flowers Trek.

Itinerary Detail
Govindghat Day 1 – Drive from Haridwar to Govindghat via Joshimat and Devprayag (8-9 hrs)

We pick you up early in the morning at Haridwar Railway station. There are many ways to reach Haridwar by train, bus and by air (Reaching Haridwar). We drive to Govindghat from Haridwar via Joshimath and Devprayag. Devprayag is a holy city which is the confluence of the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers, after this the rivers become the holy Ganges. We Arrive at Joshimath by the evening and check into a hotel. Dinner & overnight stay. Get a good night’s sleep as tomorrow our Valley Of Flowers trek starts. We will also try and reach Govindghat and stay in Hotel Bhagat Govindghat or similar to start the valley of flowers trek next morning.

Ghangaria Day 2 – Trek from Govindghat to Ghangaria (14 km, 3-4 hrs)

At Govindghat there is a gradual ascent along a well maintained pilgrim trail to Ghangaria. Upon arrival at Ghangria check into a hotel. Explore the surroundings in the evening. Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel.

Valley Of Flowers Trek Day 3 – Trek from Ghangaria to Valley Of Flowers and back. (5km one side/4-5 hrs)

Today after an early breakfast we start our trek towards the Valley Of Flowers (3858 m) from Ghangaria. The valley is an enchanting sight with an impressive array of rare wildflowers like Geranium, Marsh etc.. The valley is 10 kms long, 2 kms wide, and is divided by the Pushpawati stream, into which several tiny streams and waterfalls merge. After absorbing the beauty of the Valley Of Flowers we trek back to Ghangaria. Dinner & overnight stay at the hotel.

Hemkund Sahib Day 4 – Trek from Ghangaria to Hemkund and back.

In the morning we trek to Hemkund Sahib (4329 m) from Ghangaria. This is quite a steep climb. In the Sikh holy book, The Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh Guru Gobind Singh recounts that in a previous life, he meditated on the shores of a lake surrounded by seven snowcapped mountains now recognized as Hemkund. Late afternoon trek back to Ghangaria. Dinner & overnight stay at the hotel.

We trek back to Govindghat and from here we drive to Joshimath. Upon arrival at Joshimath check into a hotel. Rest of the day is free to explore this picturesque area.

For first timer both treks are good but my personal preference would be Hampta pass trek as its proper trek where you stay in camps and it is little uncrowded as Valley of flowers trek share the same route to Hemkund Sahib.

Dear Renok.. I have two things to enquire..
    1. Is it possible to see the whole VOF within one day? Because I have heard that it is better to visit VOF for two days to see its real beauty.
2.Do you accommodate single person in the trek? because I don’t have any friend free during the month of July and August to go with me.
