New Jalpaiguri (Silliguri) – Darjeeling – Gangtok

Location:                                     Gangtok

Best Time to Visit:                       March – May and September – October

Total Distance Covered:             About 650 kms (one way)

From NJP, it takes about 4.5 hours to reach Darjeeling through Mirik. This route is slightly longer, but the view is amazing. Major attractions in Darjeeling include the sunrise view from Tiger Hill, Chowrasta Mall, Rock Garden, Mahakali Temple, Happy Valley Teah Estate, Tenzing Rock and Ropeway. From Dalhousie, Gangtok is another 4 hours drive. When in Gangtok, a walk down the MG Marg and a visit to Lal Bazaar are a must. If you wish to see all the places extensively then plan a tour of 5 to 6 days for this entire himalayan road trip.

Kumaon Road Trip

Kumaon is a popular holiday location, and you can spend about 3-9 days here. At Kumaon, the meandering lakes of Nainital and the glimpse of mighty Himalayas via The Misty Mountains will entice you. It also facilitates exploration of exotic species of wildlife through visits of Binsar and Corbett, and helps you add a religious angle to your vacation with its renowned temples like Jageshwar and Katarmal Surya temples.

Nepal Road Trip

Road entry into Nepal is fairly convenient. No passport or visa is required for visitors hailing from India. Only an additional tax payment is to be made at the border in accordance to the length of one’s stay in the country.

The best point of entry through a car or bike is Sunauli, which is about 90 km from Gorakhpur. From here, major tourist attractions like Chitwan, Lumbini, and Sauraha are easily accessible. Nepal is full of fabulous destinations. While Pokhara offers the thrill of Paragliding, the base camps at Annapurna are ideal for trekking.

However, the terrain is mountainous; therefore ensure that the driver has competence to drive in such regions.

Jammu to Sonamarg

Total Distance Covered:           About 370 kms (one way)

The distance between these two points can be approximately covered in 10 hours by road. It is advisable to take the Jammu Srinagar Highway (NH44) route owing to the accelerated militant activity in the Mughal Road route. The highway road is very well constructed and safe for travel.

The first glimpse of the heavenly valley of Srinagar can be caught at the Titantic Point. Some of the significant attractions in the course of the journey include the spring Verinag and the Martand Sun Temple.

Located at an altitude of 2730 m, Sonamarg is rightfully designated the Meadow of Gold for its scenic splendour.

Dehradun to Deoria Tal

Total Distance Covered:         About 250 kms (one way)

The road route to Deoria Tal from Dehradun goes via Rishikesh, Dev Prayag, Srinagar, Rudra Prayag, Agustmuni, Syal Saur, Kund, Ukhinath and finally Sari Village. From there on, one needs to trek for about 2 km to reach Deoria Tal. The trekking path is cemented but is tedious to climb at certain spots. On an average, it could take anywhere between 60 to 80 minutes to complete the trek. There are ample locations to take a break during the trek. No matter how strenuous the trek, once you reach the destination, the sight of the lake at a height of 2438m will enthrall and calm you.

Travel solo or as a couple, with your buddies or with your family; these Himalayan road trips should not be missed before you turn 30!
