Chenab Lake Trek

One of the lesser-known and undisturbed trekking trails in the Garhwal Himalaya of Uttarakhand, the Chenab Lake Trek appeals to those who enjoy walking through fresh, untouched natural landscapes. Passing by the striking views of the serene Chenab Lake, the surrounding oak and deodar forests, and sweeping hills, this trek offers a peaceful outdoor experience amidst abundant greenery. Starting from Joshimath, the route forms part of the Garhwal Range and rises from about 2,050 metres to nearly 4,000 metres. Owing to its gradual ascent, the trek is suitable even for beginners, and a guided journey of eight nights and nine days is enough to take in the most appealing aspects of the expedition.

The itinerary designed by Peak Adventure Tour takes you past the secluded village of Chai and brings you closer to panoramic views of the towering peaks of Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot, and Dronagiri. Capture as many photographs as you wish as the mountains change colour at different times of the day. Further along, you will pass through the charming village of Thaing, which is surrounded by rich greenery and delicate plant life. A few kilometres ahead, in Dhar Kharak, you can see a variety of flowers such as primulas, orchids, poppies, Brahma Kamal, marigolds, anemones, and daisies.

As you continue, the trail opens up to beautiful forest views dotted with numerous rhododendron trees alongside sal and teak. The route also includes the scenic Swanu and Nandu Lakes, which are inviting spots for trekkers to camp beside the water. On the way to the Chenab Valley, the temple of Raj Rajeshwari Mohan Nanda offers a quiet, uplifting stop before you carry on towards the lake.
