One of the easiest and shortest treks in Himachal Pradesh, Triund trail is just 7 km from the city center in the beautiful town of McLeodganj. It’s quite popular among amateurs and first-time trekking enthusiasts. You’ll find many college-goers planning a Triund trek in January over a random weekend. Unlike other heavy duty and high altitude treks, this one allows you to reach the top within 4 hours.
Visiting Triund is a mesmerizing experience. During the month of January, cold weather lets you keep your head held high among dense clouds, and your feet grounded in white snow. However, dense fog or mist may not allow you to get clear views of the Kangra Valley and Dhauladhar range.
While walking up the trail, you can see the popular Kareri Lake. After Gallu Devi temple, the trek gets steeper, and may be even more difficult during the winter months. It’s better to keep some things in mind to plan a good and safe trek.
Triund Trek in January
Though Triund trek is open throughout the year, it’s worth mentioning that January can be a pretty cold month to plan your visit. However, if you like snow, it can be a good choice. Due to cold weather, it’s important to carry warm clothes. You should also carry a stick to make sure you don’t slip on snowy terrain.
In case you’re planning to stay overnight, try to book the Forest Guest House from the Forest Office in Dharamshala. Nights can be chilly and you won’t have to sleep in the tent. Also, it’s better to plan the trek under the guidance and supervision of experienced trekkers. To get in touch with our team, just click here.
