During July and August, Valley of Flowers is one of the most visited destinations from Delhi, and we’re not just talking about trekkers. Since the inception of the helicopter service from Govindghat to Ghangaria, even not-so-seasoned trekkers have been ticking this mesmerizing destination off their bucket lists.
Valley of Flowers from Delhi
To visit Valley of Flowers from Delhi you have to reach Haridwar and Haridwar is well-connected to Delhi via different modes of transportation. You can choose to travel in a bus, train, taxi or even your own car. If you want to take a flight from Delhi, you’ll have to get off in Dehradun Airport (Jolly Grant) and proceed from thereon.
By Bus: Regular buses ply between Anand Vihar ISBT and Haridwar on a daily basis. It takes approximately six hours to reach Haridwar by bus.
By Train: A less tiring journey is assured if you book a direct train to Haridwar. You can board a train from New Delhi Railway Station. However, bookings have to be done well in advance.
By Taxi or Self-driven Car: Though more expensive than the other two options, travelling by taxi or your own car is a good choice. However, it’s highly recommended to not drive on your own beyond Haridwar, and take a bus or taxi to Govindghat instead or take overnight halt at midway near Devprayag or Rudraprayag because Valley of Flowers from Delhi drive will be too hectic if you are not well versed with hill driving then it not advisable.
From Haridwar to Govindghat, it takes approximately 10 to 12 hours depending on the road conditions. It’s recommended to keep the taxi with you for the entire duration of the trip. This ensures you’re not left stranded after the trek due to any road blockages or unpleasant weather conditions.
By Air: Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest airport to Govindghat. Daily flights operate between the airport in Dehradun and New Delhi. From Dehradun, you can take a bus or taxi to reach Govindghat. The journey takes approximately 10 hours. It’s a pretty straightforward journey from Delhi to Valley of Flowers.
