Joshimath to Govindghat for Valley of Flowers
A small town located at a height of approximately 6,200 feet, Joshimath is set at the conjunction of Alaknanda and Dhauliganga valleys. Whether you travel from Haridwar, Dehradun or Rishikesh, plenty of buses and taxis are available at short intervals to reach Joshimath. From October to April, the Valley of Flowers is not accessible due to heavy snowfall.
Joshimath is about 20 km before Govindghat. It’s often considered the first basecamp among a lot of trekkers. From Joshimath, you can easily take a cab for Govindghat. It’s about a one hour journey, and the road conditions are pretty good. From Govindghat, a 14 km trek takes you to Ghangaria, the most popular basecamp about 4 km before the Valley of Flowers. You can even reach Joshimath via your own car.
The last 4 km of the trek is pretty steep. Though you can take a palki or hire mules for the 14 km trek, the last 4 km can only be covered on foot. The snowy glaciers, lush valleys and waterfalls make your journey delightful.
