About Joshimath

Word “Jyotirmath” means the spot of Jyotirlinga of Shiva. Shankaracharya established one of the four essences “Communities’ for sanyasis here. It is a stopping place for the travelers headed for Badrinath. It is thought to be a standout amongst the most consecrated spots by Hindus who trusts that Badrinath (The God Vishnu) dwells here in winter.
 
Joshimath has a sanctuary committed to Narshimsha, an incarnation of Vishnu, an arm of the icon of this divinity (which is introduced in the sanctuary) is said to be diminishing day by day and it is trusted that when it severs the street to Badrinath will be near to an area slip. Toward the south of the huge square before the sanctuary, there is a roofed building lodging a stone reservoir with two metal spouts known as Danddhara and Narshimha Dhara between which there are metal icons of Rama and Sita.
 
There are a few sanctuaries here, each committed to Haniman, Ganesha, Surya, Gaurishankar and Naudevi individually. These sanctuaries encompass that of Vashudeva the dark stone icon introduce in it, which is two meters high and stand on a lotus platform, standing so as to be of fine craftsmanship and being flanked figures of Sridevi and Bhudevi.
