Hemkund-An Overview

Hemkund (Snow Lake) Sahib, is a high-height lake (4329 m) encompassed by seven gigantic snow-shrouded mountains, which are by and large called Hemkund Parvat. Near the lake is a sacred Gurudwara that is a journey community for Sikhs and Hindus from everywhere throughout the world.

It is said that Shri Guru Govind Singh Ji (the Tenth Guru of the Sikhs) pondered the very banks of this lake where various stages and religious educators from the Hindu mythology, including Rishi Medhasa of the Markandeya Purana and Lakshman, the sibling of Lord Ram performed repentance. Other than the Gurudwara, you can likewise see a sanctuary here. The lake is the wellspring of the Laxman Ganga (then again called Hem Ganga) stream that converges with the Pushpawati stream spilling out of the Valley of Flowers, at Ghangaria. Starting here on, the waterway is called Laxman Ganga.

An extremely prevalent trekking destination, Hemkund is a 15 km trek from Govindghat. The trek takes one through pine backwoods where rhododendron (burans), wild roses, greeneries, and snow-capped blossoms flourish. With amazing perspectives of the surging waters of the Lakshman Ganga, the last five kilometers of the trek involves a lofty move from Ghangaria, which is a base for going to Hemkund.

The lake is around two kilometers in outline. It has clear, still water mirror pictures of the Saptashringa crests (5500 m) that encompasses it.
