During the months of January and February, Zanskar river gets covered by a thick sheet of ice. In January, temperature ranges between -5 degree celsius to -25 degree celsius. In such freezing temperature, you need to take necessary precautions while planning the trip. When it comes to Chadar trek difficulty, it’s considered to be one of the toughest treks in the country.

For most part of the 105 km long trek, you need to dodge snowy boulders and walk over the frozen Zanskar river. If the sheet of ice is even slightly thin, it can be risky and difficult. Thus, you should avoid planning the trip before mid-January and after mid-February. The huge icy boulders, dangling icicles and the Himalayan range make the perfect backdrop for this amazing trekking experience.

Though you can find several Chadar trek packages online, it’s important to understand the difficulties and challenges that you come across during this trekking experience. Therefore, it’s important to consult a reputed tour operator. We’ve been planning Chadar trek experiences for quite some time. If you want more info, click here.
