Located in the Lahaul-Spiti region of the Himalayas, Chandratal Lake is one of the most scenic destinations near Manali. Set at a height of 14,000 feet or 4,250 metres, this mesmerizing spot among the Himalayas lies about 140 km from the beautiful hill station of Manali. Due to the elevation, weather in Chandratal can be freezing cold. Chandratal is also called the Moon Lake, which is the English translation of its name.


Every year, hundreds of trekkers and adventure seekers visit Chandratal via Rohtang Pass. Local legends and myths about spotting aliens in the region have made this tourist destination even more popular. Chandratal trek can be long and tiring. Best Time to Visit as per Weather in Chandratal


Due to the elevation, Chandratal remains cold throughout the year. The snow can stay in the region till June and July. Thus, roads may be closed during these months. The best time to visit Chandratal is considered to be September. A visit during this period makes sure you get the most amazing views of the lake, and even cross some of the most scenic sights enroute.

During the month of August, monsoon season hits the region pretty hard. This often leads to bad road conditions, and makes the journey difficult. Streams of water and landslides only add to your problems.


The first half of September is a really good time to visit Chandratal. During this period, weather in Chandratal remains favourable and you don’t come across bad roads or other such problems.       Road to Chandratal will be opening around Mid June most probable so if you are planning to go to Chandratal then plan Chandratal Lake in July

      Rohtang Opens around first week of June and Road to Chandratal opens around Mid June then the Chandratal Lake Temperatures in June would be around 22 Degree Celsius to 7 Degree Celsius at Lower side.
