Trekkers from all parts of the country visit Nag Tibba to feel closer to nature, and get respite from busy city lives. Since it’s a relatively easy trek, you don’t need any special skills or training. Even elderlies and children can go for Nag Tibba trek. In order to prepare for the trek, it’s important to consider some details, especially about the distance and accessibility. Here’s some info about Nag Tibba trek distance from Dehradun, since it’s the most preferred starting point to access the basecamp.


Nag Tibba Trek Distance from Dehradun


Nag Tibba trekking provides you with a wholesome experience. At 9,915 feet, this scenic trekking route is located on the foothills of lower Garhwal Himalayas. One of the highest peaks in the region, Nag Tibba allows you to get stunning views of Gangotri, Bandarpunch, Kedarnath and Srikanth peaks. The total distance of the trek is 10 km, and the trek starts from Pantwari, which is about 90 km from Dehradun.


The nearest railway station is in Dehradun, which connects Pantwari to other major north Indian cities. From Dehradun railway station, Mussoorie is only 33 km. If you’re planning to take a flight to Dehradun, you’ll be able to take a bus or a cab from Jolly Grant Airport, which is about 60 km from Mussoorie. Regular buses ply between Mussoorie and Pantwari on a daily basis.


Reaching Pantwari to Start the Trek


Once you’ve reached Dehradun railway station, you need to reach the Bus Stand or the Hill Depot in Mussoorie. It’s important to start the journey early in the morning. This allows you to book a decent mode of transportation. If you don’t want to take a halt in Mussoorie, you can catch a direct taxi from Dehradun. From the Hill Depot in Mussoorie, you’ll be able to catch a bus to Nainbagh, which is about 30 km from the popular hill station. From Nainbagh, shared taxis and private Jeeps take you to Pantwari to start your Nag Tibba trek.


Nag Tibba Trek Distance from Dehradun


Several trekkers prefer to catch a direct taxi from Mussoorie’s Hill Depot Taxi Stand. This saves a lot of time, and allows them to take halts at fast food and snack shops on the way. Though the distance between Pantwari and Dehradun is about 90 km, a direct taxi ensures a faster and a comfortable journey. If you leave from Dehradun around 7 AM, you can reach Pantwari around 11 AM.


On reaching Pantwari, you need to walk on the main road of the village for about 100 metres. A right turn allows you to walk towards the interiors of the village. A short 50-metre ascend takes you to a cemented gate, which has a board sign mentioning ‘Gramsabha Banasari’. This is the true starting point for Nag Tibba trekking.


Once you’ve crossed the cemented gate, you’ll notice two small temples. While one is dedicated to Maa Bhavani, the other is devoted to Nag Devta, the Serpent God. According to legend, the Serpent God protects local cattle from snake bites, and hence, locals offer prayers in the temple on a regular basis.
