Uttarakhand has plenty of trekking destinations to choose from. One of the easiest trekking destinations among them all is Kedarkantha. Located at a height of 12,500 ft, Kedarkantha attracts trekkers from around the world. In order to reach the summit, you have to go through Govind Wildlife Sanctuary. When planning Kedarkantha trek, you should be aware that you would be trekking for a distance of 10 km from the starting point to the peak. Since the trek begins at Sankri, located at a height of 6,500 ft, you will be trekking 6,000 ft uphill. The entire route is made up of gradual ascends and descends. However, the last few 100 ft can be steep.

 

During winters, the trekking difficulty level tends to increase. You will have to walk on snow and will have to bear strong winds as you cross ridges and wide-open meadows. It’s worth mentioning that you may have to also trek in the dark. To be prepared for the weather, you should invest in warm clothing and snow boots before embarking on the trek. You will also require thermals, walking stick, torches, and the right trekking equipment.

 

How to Plan a Visit to Kedarkantha?

 

All trekkers have to pass through Dehradun on their way to Kedarkantha. Dehradun is Uttarakhand’s capital and is well-connected to all major cities in India. This makes it an ideal place to start. From Dehradun, trekkers can hire a cab or board a bus to reach Sankri, the starting point of the trek.

 

Once you begin trekking, you can cover the distance of 10 km, in three stretches.
