Kullu is a charming little hill station and is also widely referred to as the ‘Valley of Gods’. It lies by the mighty Himalayas and is unparalleled in terms of natural beauty. Kullu is gorgeous by itself and is an absolute paradise for tourists with its ancient Temples, beautiful Trekking Paths, mesmerizing landscapes of the majestic snow-capped hills and Pine forests and Apple orchards. This town is also extremely famous for its annual Dussehra festival, which attracts thousands of tourists from across India and the world as well.
Kullu is most widely known for the following:
 
  • Apples: The valley is known for its vegetation and the most popular produce are the Apples. They’re very popular across India and are of a shade of bright red and are very crunchy and juicy. It is Kullu’s most important fruit crop as it sent to various parts across India.
  • Shawls: Kullu is very popular for its shawls that are made in various geometric and floral patterns. They are traditionally woven in bright colors and are available in Sheep wool, Angora, Yak wool, Pashmina and hand spin material.
  • Adventure Sports: Kullu offers a variety of adventure sports for tourists such as River Rafting, Trekking, Paragliding from the mountains and also Skiing among the snow clad peaks.
 
The valley is also home to many rare species such as the Himalayan Tahr, Western Tragopan, and the Himalayan Brown Bear. It has a varied biodiversity and is the home to many wildlife sanctuaries including the Great Himalayan National Park, Tirthan Sanctuary, Rupi Baba Sanctuary and Khokhan Sanctuary.
Kullu lies at an altitude of 1200 meters above sea level and has a literacy ratio of 81 %, well above the national average of 5.95%. The local language spoken here is Pahari. Kullu is also known to be the largest and the most varied constituency of the Lok Sabha.
