Treks around the Lahaul & Spiti Valley

Travel through the breath-taking valleys of the Himalayas and be mesmerized by its magnificent landscapes. On each trek, you can see the angel white-peaks, deep-blue lakes, and remote village life. The best time for trekking in Lahaul valley is between July and October, this is when the climate and land conditions make it trekking an easy task. The treks in the district Lahaul & Spiti has more difficult terrain but creates a spellbinding effect to all its visitors. These are the different treks you can take through the Lahul-Spiti valley:

  • Kaza-Ki-Kibber-Gete-Kaza,
  • Kaza-Losar-Kunzum La
  • Kaza-Tabo-Sumdo-Nako.

There are also some very high altitude treks where you’d have to cross passes like Parangla Pass (connecting Ladakh with Spiti Valley), Pin Parvati Pass, Baba Pass, Hampta Pass trek to name a few.

Manali-Chandratal-Keylong trek

This is one of the most beautiful treks in Himachal which leads to the icy blue waters of the Chandra Tal Lake. This 120-kilometer trek offers surreal views of mountains and glaciers, which are all around you. Chandra Tal, also known as the `Moon Lake’ is situated at a height of about 15,000 feet and its name arises from its shape, which is crescent-like.

Keylong-Suraj Tal-Baralacha La Trek

The transcendent Suraj Tal Lake is situated at a distance of 65 km from Keylong, the capital of Lahaul and Spiti. The beautiful Suraj Tal Lake is the main water source for the Bhaga River. It is located below the Baralacha La, the pass which connects Lahaul to Ladakh and is surrounded by mighty mountains on all sides. The trek goes up to heights of 16,400 feet!

Make sure you’re packed adequately with proper clothing and food as you never know when the need may arise. Proper woolen clothing and full body protection is a must along with your mountaineering gear.
